The Arch

We were delighted to be commissioned to renovate The Arch in Fonthill. The Arch is a Grade 1 Listed luxury B&B for the Beckford Pub group, steeped in history but designed with all the modern touches. This beautiful building was built in 1755 to mark the entrance to the original Fonthill Estate in Wiltshire.

The building is arranged over three floors. On the ground floor there is a boot room, pantry, kitchen, sitting room (with wood-burner) and shower room. The first floor has a large bedroom with freestanding bath overlooking the Fonthill Lake and an en-suite bathroom. The top floor has full-size handmade, bespoke bunk beds, and all floors are connected by a stone spiral staircase.

We restored the sash windows and two circular windows and fitted all new hardware throughout. We added a toilet cubicle on the first floor with a hidden Tongue and Groove door, installed all new Burlington sanitary ware throughout and bi-folding cabinet doors to reveal the television in the living room.

Great care was taken over the interior decoration. Patrick O’Donnell, the International Brand Ambassador at Farrow & Ball personally selected brand-new colours from the paint company to feature alongside archive shades. Fabrics from Buchanan Studio, Colefax & Fowler, Morris & Co and Chelsea Textiles create a style that complements the fascinating history of the building.
